So this is what it looks like now. I added two boxes of vegetable fertilizer to it and really wetted it down. The soil wouldn't accept the water; it pooled on top for a while before it finally drained down. I guess it needs some more organic matter in there.

Dirt
Sweet. Yeah, I shoveled dirt for an hour or so the other day, after I cleared out my 4-by-8 raised bed. Scott, Owen and Charlotte helped clear out the dead weeds, tomato bushes and onion plants. The plot also had mint in it--mint!--practically the worst possible plant. I dug deep to try to get every last speck of that mint out of my raised bed.
So this is what it looks like now. I added two boxes of vegetable fertilizer to it and really wetted it down. The soil wouldn't accept the water; it pooled on top for a while before it finally drained down. I guess it needs some more organic matter in there.
